Raising dough in the name of charity

Raising dough in the name of charity

The Great Alex Picot Bake Off certainly satisfied the sweet-toothed among us with the icing on the cake being a £500 donation to Macmillan Jersey.

Organised to support Macmillan Jersey’s Greatest Coffee Morning fundraising event, our staff rose to the challenge whisking, rolling, mixing and decorating to be part of the inaugural Great Alex Picot Bake Off.

We were overwhelmed by the huge effort shown by all who got involved, in particular those who took on the challenge to bake for the first time.

After weeks of planning and taste tests, 25 entries were presented for the six categories:

Classic - traditional cake or bake

Technical Challenge - shortbread

What Lies Beneath - a secret hidden ingredient

Fake it till you bake it - the cake that looks like something else

Master Baker

A huge thanks to Pam Aubert from Macmillan Jersey who kindly took up the call to act as judge. Not an easy job but someone had to do it. After sampling a selection of sponges, biscuits and icing she crowned six winners and took away a selection of the treats to share with Charity supporters.

A hair-raising challenge

While the Jersey trust company staff were busy competing for the Bake Off crown one of our directors turned the temperature up on the fundraising efforts declaring he would shave his head – and raised £200 in the process.

Pledges flew in and Andrew Le Cheminant ultimately lost his locks alongside Audit Trainee Tom Cairns, who took up Andrew’s challenge to the staff and went bald for a further donation of £75.

Andrew Le Cheminant said:

“We were delighted to pull-together with our colleagues at Alex Picot Chartered Accountancy to help boost the fundraising for Macmillan Jersey's Great British Bake Off. This is an important local charity that really does provide invaluable support to those Island families facing cancer and we're really pleased to be able to make such a significant contribution to their fundraising from our Bake Off."

Funds were raised through dress-down day monies, cake sales, the head-shave challenge and general donations.
